Ms. Rast joined Pear Sperling Eggan & Daniels, P.C. as a principal after 14 years with Dickinson Wright PLLC, where she served as the Director of their eBusiness Group (1998-2001) and Manager of their Environmental Practice Department (1997-1998). As a lawyer and technology trends analyst, she counsels both start-up and well-established clients on emerging legal issues related to business and electronic commerce. With the growth of eBusiness, traditional technology business models have been forced to adapt and change, yet many legal frameworks remain static. Ms. Rast blends the study of law, business, and technology to assist companies in their choice and use of technology to maintain a competitive edge. Ms. Rast is a member of the Michigan Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) Technology Training Advisory Board and is the chair of the IT Forum Committee 2002 for the Ann Arbor IT Zone. From 1998-99, she was a member of the Task Force on eBusiness for the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). Since 1994, Ms. Rast has lectured on the law and regulation of eBusiness, and Information Technology Law issues generally at conferences and seminars sponsored by the American Bar Association, the AICPA, the Michigan Bar Association, ICLE, Fulcrum, the Michigan Municipal Bond Authority, the Corporate Counsel Institute and the Illinois CPA Society, among others. Ms. Rast is also an experienced environmental lawyer. Her federal and state regulatory practice includes experience with Underground Storage Tank compliance remediation and litigation; Clean Water Act litigation and compliance; NPDES permitting; Solid Waste permitting and compliance; SWAP grant permitting and compliance; and Superfund litigation and compliance. Ms. Rast's expertise also includes enforcement defense and compliance under many of the regulatory programs within Michigan's Natural Resources & Environmental Protection Act (NREPA), such as the BEA and Due Care compliance programs under Part 201 of NREPA, UST compliance and remediation and NPDES permitting and compliance. Ms. Rast's transactional experience is equally broad, ranging from serving as lead outside environmental counsel for banking institutions to negotiating environmental compliance, remediation and indemnity issues in numerous multi-party transactions covering leases, asset acquisitions and stock deals. Ms. Rast has lectured on both the compliance and transactional aspects of environmental law generally at conferences and seminars sponsored by the American Bar Association, the Michigan Bar Association, and the Michigan Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE), among others.
