Paul R. Fransway

Paul R. Fransway has been with the firm since September 1987. He was licensed to practice in Texas in 1977 and in Michigan in 1985. Mr. Fransway received his bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 1972, his law degree from the University of Houston, magna cum laude in 1977, and a Master of Laws degree in Taxation from the University of Houston in 1987. Mr. Fransway has been a principal of the firm since 1992 specializing in the areas of franchise, trademark and unfair competition law. In addition to compliance with the disclosure and registration obligations of franchisors under the FTC Rule and various state registration statutes, Mr. Fransway is an expert in all aspects of franchise contract enforcement, including enforcement of covenants not to compete, trademark infringement and post termination remedies, in both court and arbitration settings. Mr. Fransway serves as primary franchise counsel for a number of national franchisors.

In addition to his law practice, Mr. Fransway is also actively involved in local government and non-profit community activities. He has served as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals (1986-2000) and the Planning Commission (1988-1998, Chairman in 1995-1996) for the Charter Township of Lyon (Oakland County, Michigan), and as a Board Trustee. In these capacities, Mr. Fransway developed an intimate familiarity with all aspects of public entity activity, including the Open Meetings Act, the Freedom of Information Act, statutory and case authority for land use and planning, and drafting and implementation of local ordinances. Mr. Fransway also acts as special counsel and trustee for a number of community organizations including various primary schools and post secondary educational institutions.

Mr. Fransway is a member of the Washtenaw County and American Bar Associations, and the State Bars of Texas, Florida, and Michigan.
