PSED Law was a proud sponsor of the 9th Annual Down Syndrome Support Team Buddy Walk in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on September 29, 2013. Hundreds of people gathered on a rainy cold Sunday in Gallup Park to walk a mile in order to raise money and show their support for families whose lives are touched by Down Syndrome. Over $25,000 was raised for the Down Syndrome Support Team.
The Down Syndrome Support Team (DSST) provides support to families, shares knowledge and experience, helps build lasting friendships, provides services and classes to individuals with Down Syndrome, and raises awareness and acceptance of Down Syndrome in the community. They meet bi-monthly to discuss issues and provide support for families.
PSED Law is proud to sponsor such an event. Attorney Wendy Alton was there as a representative of the firm, and paralegal Rachel Hobbs participated with her family in the Buddy Walk. Wendy Alton assists families with special needs in setting up estate plans. This can be in the form of an Amenities Trust, or an OBRA Trust. Through specialized estate planning, a family can provide financial help to a child with special needs without interfering their qualification for necessary or important programs.
