We’re proud to have experienced, thoughtful attorneys like Marty Bodnar on our team. With a calm, client-focused approach and years of experience in estate planning, Marty helps families plan for the future with confidence and clarity. Learn more about what drives Marty and how he supports clients through the estate planning process.
Why did you choose estate planning?
In law school, I didn’t see myself as a litigator. I naturally gravitated to wills and trust because it was a very organized area of the law and that just fit me.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
Guiding clients to get their affairs in order through a 3-step meeting process and knowing that they have peace of mind when the process is completed.
What do you think sets you apart from other attorneys?
I create an excel spreadsheet for each estate planning client listing their assets and providing instructions on how to title each asset and name beneficiaries on each retirement account and life insurance policy.
What do you enjoy most about working at Pear Sperling Eggan & Daniels, P.C.?
I really enjoy collaborating with the other estate planning attorneys to talk through issues and come up with solutions and being able to refer clients to other attorneys at the firm, who competently handle legal matters outside of my area of expertise.
What are your interests outside of work?
I like to read, play golf, go on walks and attend U-M basketball games with my wife and enjoy our 6 grandchildren.
What’s one piece of advice you always give clients?
During an estate planning meeting, I always tell clients that “you have done a lot for your children during their lives and getting your affairs in order is the final gift to your children.”
After the death of a loved one, family members are often overwhelmed after I give them an overview of the post-death administration process. I always tell them that “from now on just think about what is next to do.”
Marty is deeply invested in making a positive impact beyond the legal field. He has served on the board of LaunchBlue Solutions, a nonprofit that helped University of Michigan student-athletes transition to meaningful careers and Careers Through Faith, a nonprofit that helped individuals with career discernment from a faith-based perspective. He currently serves as Secretary of the board of Catholic Charities Washtenaw County.
In the past, his dedication to education is evident through his role as a guest instructor at the Eastern Michigan University School of Business and the University of Connecticut Engineering School.
Marty’s work in the community reflects the same values he brings to his practice—service, compassion, and leadership.
If you're looking for a compassionate, detail-oriented attorney to guide you through the estate planning process, Marty Bodnar is here to help. Whether you’re planning for the future or handling a loved one’s estate, Marty will walk you through each step with care and clarity.
